FOF is delivered by a Peer Health Advisor. Having a peer deliver this intervention is one of the core elements responsible for its effectiveness. When a client goes to a clinic and is able to have a conversation with someone of the same age and social group, it makes for a relaxed and enhanced learning environment. Clients feel comfortable asking personal questions to peers and are able to discuss without the fear of being judged and labeled. They can discuss issues that are difficult to discuss with a provider and gain insights through sharing mutual experiences, knowledge and information. Since the Peer Health Advisor is from the same age and cultural group, he can empathize and understand the emotions, thoughts, feelings, language of the clients, and, therefore, relate better.
